I have a Colt single action army I want to sell. Do I have to have FFL dealer ship and recieve it if I find a buyer?
I've done my research and I've come to find I can only own a weapon that is an "Antique" made before or on 1918 or an exact replica of that weapon.. I have 4 years to go until I can purchase a regular firearm.. I'm sure you've realized my problem by now.. Just need a rifle for hunting and providing more food for my family.. A handgun for protection would be nice.. but not necessary..
I've been looking into weapons that were used and issued during World War I so that I can figure out what I have to work with.. Problem is.. I was looking to hunt with the rifle.. so it has to be a decent firing gun.. The other problem was when I was looking at the older guns I saw price tags that pretty much started at $1,000..
What cheaper (in the lower hundreds) antique rifle would be most effective for hunting deer?
I've been looking at these for hunting:
M1917 Enfield
Lee-Enfield
M1903 Springfield
Steyr-Mannlicher M1895
Winchester Lever-Action Repeating Rifles
And these for protection:
Colt M1900
Luger P08 pistol
M1911 pistol
Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammer
Colt Model 1903 Pocket Hammerless
FN model 1910
What do you all recommend, where can I purchase it, and how much is this going to cost me?
Thank You.
Exact Antique Replicas are ok too.. but for sake of law abiding I would prefer the real deal.. Thanks!
"(1) a?Antique firearma? means any firearm manufactured in or before 1918 (including any matchlock, flintlock, percussion cap, or similar early type of ignition system) or replica thereof, whether actually manufactured before or after the year 1918, and also any firearm using fixed ammunition manufactured in or before 1918, for which ammunition is no longer manufactured in the United States and is not readily available in the ordinary channels of commercial trade. "
I'm 21.. I don't need a parent lol..
Well.. I thank you all for your helpful answers..
Yes, I am a Felon.. Yes, I am law abiding.. At least now I am.. Obviously.. otherwise I wouldn't be buying an antique..
And for acting like you know all.. I should share with you that muzzle loaders are firearms.. However, they aren't if they are replicas of guns older then 1918.. Otherwise I would of walked into a Wal-Mart and bought one two years ago..
Well, thank you all for your help, again, doesn't hurt to have other opinions..They CANNOT arrest anyone with an actual antique..and even if they do the case will be thrown out simply by proving it's antique(I've dug really really deep..even examining others' court cases including antiques and muzzel loaders)..While I do respect you, your information, and the time you've given to help me with this.. I have to disagree on some things you say(but not all)..I do not bow hunt because I'm just at the point where I'd feel comfortable killing an animal(grew up rescuing animals)..I know that most of the time deer don't go down immediately after being hit with an arrow then I'm left with watching it die or having to finish it off..Don't like the idea of things suffering..so traps are out as well..With a gun I'm comfortable taking a deer because I know if I miss I can at least fire another round..Plus I know how to handle a gun.. I know nothing about bows. Therefore I'd have to learn it all over
